Financial Times Appoints Gillian Tett as New U.S. Managing Editor

Tett, who joined the UK-based paper in 1993, was previously the assistant editor in charge of market coverage. Before that, she worked as the paper's Tokyo bureau chief, and has served as a reporter in Tokyo, London, Russia, and Brussels. She replaces Chrystia Freeland, who is taking a job over at Thomson Reuters, where she will assume the newly created role of global editor at large.

The succession announcement suggests that the parting with Freeland was amicable: "Chrystia has been a driving foce behind the FT's success in the US for the past four years, and has contributed to the FT's global profile in many other senior roles in London and Moscow. I wish her the very best with her future endeavors."
