Bonnier slashes magazine staff as five titles go all digital

In one of the biggest bloodbaths yet to hit a major legacy publisher, Bonnier has cut 17 percent of its US workforce as it converts five of its leisure-time print magazines to all-digital. Bonnier Corp. is the US arm of the Stockholm-based media company that is among the largest in Europe.

Bonnier CEO Eric Zinczenko was scheduled to be in Winter Haven, Fla., last Thursday delivering the news to the three magazines based there that will be hit with 30 layoffs when they are converted to all-digital: Wakeboarding, WaterSki and Sport Diver.

When the staff cuts are over, about 370 people will remain at the company. A spokeswoman said the moves were part of a “realignment of our business.”
